Balance Yoga & Wellness is grounded in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, one of the most traditional forms of yoga, as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. Ashtanga yoga is a meditation in motion, linking breath and movement in a set series of postures. The repetition in the practice allows the mind to grow quiet, while the sequencing of the postures progressively open the body. Ashtanga is for all, there are no physical limitations that keep one from this practice – it is absolutely for beginners.
MYSORE STYLE A method of teaching named for the hometown of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. There is an emphasis on students developing their own self practice, which can be done anywhere or anytime. Initially students work closely with the teacher, learning the fundamentals and the sequence. The instructor works with each student, modifying postures or adding extra stretches based on the student’s needs. This class is open to all, and especially suited to those looking for one-on-one interactions with their teacher.
INTRODUCTION TO MYSORE STYLE A bridge between beginners and led classes and a Mysore Style Class., where small groups of students will work on learning the Ashtanga series under the watchful guidance of the instructor. This class is appropriate for those who have previous yoga experience and would like to learn the Ashtanga sequence, or those who have completed beginner’s series and would like a moderately structured practice with an instructor.
