There is mounting evidence of the effectiveness of yoga and mindfulness in reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. This workshop will provide an overview of the different styles of yoga and an exploration of how yoga and mindfulness can be used to increase self-awareness, emotional regulation, and self-acceptance. We will also address how, as health and mental healthcare professionals, we can utilize body-centered practices to be more present and compassionate with those we are serving. Participants will experience Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy and several mindfulness practices. Wear comfortable clothing for movement.
Who should attend: social workers, counselors, psychiatrists, nurses, physicians, teachers, and anyone in the health and mental healthcare profession.
This program is approved by Lakeside Hospice for 2.5 general hours as approved by the LABSWE. No credit will be awarded for partial attendance.

About the facilitators
Marie T. O’Neil, LCSW, is a Registered Yoga Teacher, Certified Mind-Body Medicine Practitioner, and Co-founder and Faculty of the Mind-Body Center of Louisiana. She graduated from Hunter College School of Social Work in New York City in 1995. From 1999 – 2003 Marie lived and worked at the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies in Barre, MA where she was introduced to Buddhist psychology and became interested in the integration of psychotherapy and mind-body approaches. From 2004 – 2007 Marie was the Program Director of Garrison Institute’s Wellness Program in Garrison, NY where she worked closely with meditation teacher Sharon Salzberg to design and implement a model using contemplative practices to transform vicarious trauma. In January, 2007 Marie moved to New Orleans; she co-founded the Mind-Body Center of Louisiana in 2008 and served as its Director through 2011. Marie is currently enrolled in the Institute of Meditation and Psychotherapy’s Certification Program, based in Newton and Barre, MA. She has a private practice in New Orleans.
Amy Archinal is a visual artist, a certified Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist and Group Facilitator and a Registered Yoga Teacher. Amy’s insightful teaching combines elements of Taoist and Hatha Yoga and is focused on mindful movement, creating freedom in the body and the breath. Amy’s classes also help students to develop self presence. She seeks to honor the uniqueness of each student and considers it a deep honor to witness the unfolding of another. Amy has studied Taoist Yoga, Hatha Yoga and Phoenix Rising Yoga. She specializes in gentle classes that focus on mindful movements, stress reduction and deepened self-presence. In addition to her regularly scheduled classes at Balance Yoga & Wellness, Amy offers one-on-one Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy Sessions and runs Stress-to-Bliss group series.
