Plant-Based Diet Lowers Risk for Breast Cancer

The California Teachers Study analyzed data on 91,779 women from 1995 to 2009 and found that eating lots of fruits and vegetables helps to prevent breast cancers (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, published online 10/9/2013).

The Shanghai Breast Cancer Study enrolled 7,000 women and showed that the more vegetables a woman ate, the less likely she was to develop breast cancer. Eating lots of citrus fruits, onions, garlic, beans, eggs and milk also reduced breast cancer risk. Eating all types of meat and fish was associated with increased risk for breast cancer (Nutr Cancer, 2012 Aug;64(6):806-19).
